The Virginia Consort is proud to offer performing opportunities for young adults.

The Youth Chorale

The Youth Chorale is a select community High School Choral Ensemble committed to introducing young people to the fun and joy of singing together, to expose them to a rich and diverse repertoire of choral music and to instill in them the discipline necessary to produce a fine performance. We hope to encourage young musicians to continue singing throughout their lives. The Youth Chorale, directed by Victoria Redfearn Cave. The Youth Chorale traditionally performs their concerts on the same date/time, and at the same venue as the Adult Chorus concerts.

Sessions

The Youth Chorale program year is divided into three Sessions: Winter, Spring and Fall.

Singers can choose to sing in any or all of the Sessions as their schedules allow.

  • Fall Session: 9/14 (social/rehearsal,) 9/21, 9/28, 10/5, 10/12, 10/19, 10/26, 11/2, 11/9, 11/16, no rehearsal–11/23, 11/30, 12/7, Dress Rehearsal Wednesday 12/10 (5:45-8:30 p.m.)--Christ Episcopal Church, Concert Saturday, 12/13 (Call time 1:30, two performances 2:30 and 5:30 p.m–students will remain “on campus” in between shows). This session will culminate in two Christmas Concerts (December 12, 2026)

  • Winter Session:  *1/4, 1/11, 1/18, 1/25, 2/1, 2/8, 2/15, 2/22, 3/1, 3/6 Dress Rehearsal (Saturday 12:30-4:00 p.m.), *Old Cabell Hall, Concert 3/7, Sunday afternoon, Old Cabell Hall (3:30-5:15 with a call time of 2:30 p.m.). This session culminates in a concert at the Mid-Season Masterworks (March 07, 2027)

      **1/4 held virtually, 1/11 held in person

      **January 30 is the Tune-In event, all day Saturday with a snow date of February 6

  • Spring Session: 3/15, 3/22, 3/29, 4/5, 4/12, 4/19, 4/26, 5/3, Dress Rehearsal 5/6–Thursday evening (6:00-9:00 p.m.), Concert 5/9–Saturday 5:30 p.m. (call time for singers is 4:30 p.m.). **Dress and Concert will be at St. Paul’s Memorial Church across the street from the Rotunda. This session will culminate in a concert at A Little May Music (May 08, 2027)

Rehearsals are held on Monday evenings from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at The Center, Belvedere in Learning Center B.

  • Students need to either:

    • Get a teacher recommendation.  Either a studio teacher, a school teacher, or a church musician can send an email to Victoria with a recommendation.

    • Have a singing session with the director

Cost:

  • $150/session which includes two free tickets to the concert ($50-$70 value, depending on session). Scholarships are available, just ask about them when you apply.
