About
the Consort
The
Virginia Consort enters its eighteenth season of offering Charlottesville-area
music lovers concerts of surpassing beauty and vitality. Started quietly
by a group of experienced singers who simply wanted to sing under the
direction of Judith Gary, The Consort grew quickly in stature and vision, creating the
adjunct Virginia Consort Youth Chorale along the way.
The 35-member group now offers a full season of concerts, including
a mid-season performance of a major work with an expanded chorus, professional
soloists, and full orchestra. Recent performances include the Brahms Requiem, Leonard Bernstein's Chichester Psalms, Franz Joseph Haydn's Mass In Time of War, and last season's Gloria by Poulenc. The
Consort's Christmastide performances invariably sell out.

The
Festival Chorus
Each
spring for its midseason performance, The
Virginia Consort expands its membership by inviting qualified singers to join them in presenting
a major work from the choral-orchestral repertoire. This season's principal work will be the Credo
section of the Bach B-Minor Mass.
